Unicorn stone is a rare trade name for a natural pegmatite crystal blend composed of Lepidolite, Pink Tourmaline, Smoky Quartz, and Cleavelandite.

Unicorn Stone was discovered relatively recently, around mid-2021, in the pegmatite-rich regions of southern Madagascar. While "Unicorn Stone" is a trade name specific to the exact Madagascar deposit, similar pegmatite formations containing lepidolite, quartz, and tourmaline can occasionally be found in places like Brazil and the United States. However, Madagascar remains the true home of the signature pastel "unicorn" color palette.

Because it's made of four different minerals, a single piece has different hardness levels across its surface! Quartz sits at a tough 7 on the Mohs scale, while Lepidolite is very soft at 2.5 to 3. Lapidaries have to be extremely careful when polishing it so the soft parts don't erode faster than the hard parts.

Hardness 5 to 7.5

This is a natural stone that has had no treatment other than cutting, drilling and polishing in China
