Selenite

Selenite is one of the most ethereal and luminous stones we carry. It's a transparent, glowing variety of Gypsum — a crystallized calcium sulphate mineral — with an inner translucence and soft striations that can create a subtle cat's eye effect. Its name comes from the Greek goddess Selene, goddess of the moon. Historically, the ancient Egyptians used large slabs of Selenite to make windows for their palaces and temples. Our Selenite beads are wax-coated to protect the stone and create a smooth polish. One important thing to know: Selenite is very soft at Mohs 2, so it needs careful handling and is best suited for necklaces and earrings rather than everyday bracelets.
