Smoky Quartz

Smoky Quartz is the grounded one — clear quartz turned a translucent brown-to-grey, from the palest wisp of smoke to deep, near-black cocoa. A warm, earthy neutral that pairs with everything.

That smoky color comes from irradiation acting on traces of aluminum in the crystal. In nature it happens slowly, over millions of years, near faintly radioactive granite. Most smoky quartz in the bead trade — including ours — gets there faster, with controlled treatment that does in hours what the earth does in eons. We label every strand plainly.

It's a stone with history: the national gem of Scotland, and shaped into sunglasses in 12th-century China.
