Chrysoprase

Chrysoprase is a brilliant apple-green variety of chalcedony quartz, colored by trace amounts of nickel. The ancient Greeks named it "chrysos kolla" (golden leek), and it remains one of the most prized and translucent greens in the quartz family — often mistaken for emerald because of its vivid hue. We've kept it in the gemstone category because that's how most people think of it.

Chrysoprase is durable: Mohs 6.5 to 7, suitable for rings, bracelets, necklaces, and everyday wear. No cleavage means it's less likely to break. Handle gently and avoid prolonged heat exposure, which can fade color slightly (though it often recovers under moist storage).
