Onyx

Black Onyx is the classic — a deep, even, glossy black that reads as pure elegance against silver or gold. It's been carved into seals, cameos, and amulets since Roman times.

Here's the honest part, because most sellers skip it: nearly all black onyx is dyed, and ours is too. Onyx is naturally a banded chalcedony — black-and-white parallel stripes. Solid, even black is rare in nature, so gray chalcedony is dyed a rich, permanent black. It's a centuries-old technique. We label every strand Dyed so you know what you have.

A nice bit of geology: agate and onyx are the same chalcedony — agate has curved bands, onyx has straight parallel ones.
