Larvikite

Larvikite is one of those stones that most people have never heard of but, once you see it, you won't forget it. It's a dark Norwegian igneous rock packed with thumbnail-sized feldspar crystals that flash silver, blue and grey with a beautiful labradorescence — the same optical phenomenon you see in Labradorite and Moonstone. In fact it's often misleadingly sold as "Black Labradorite" or "Black Moonstone," but it's own distinct and remarkable stone. Named after Larvik, Norway — the mountain region surrounding most of the world's deposits — Larvikite became Norway's official national stone in 2008.
