For thousands of years, people used the word "jade" for two completely different minerals that look almost identical: jadeite and nephrite. It wasn't until 1863 that scientists officially split them. Of the two, jadeite is the rarer, harder, and far more valuable sibling.

Authentic lavender jadeite is exceptionally rare and is mined in only a few specific pockets of the world: Myanmar (Burma), Turkey & Guatemala. The lilac hue is caused by trace elements of manganese taking the place of aluminum in the stone's crystal structure as it forms under immense pressure deep underground.

One of lavender jade’s most magical qualities is its sensitivity to light. Under cool, natural daylight, a piece might look soft pink-purple. Step under warm, incandescent indoor lighting, and the gemstone will visually shift toward a cooler, grayish-violet or blue-violet hue.
