"Fynchenite”, often sold as Chrysocolla Fynchenite or Phoenix Stone, is a popular term you will see in the crystal and lapidary world. However, Fynchenite is not an officially recognized scientific mineral. You won’t find it listed in the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) database. Instead, "Fynchenite" is a commercial trade name.
Fynchenite is a natural composite stone rather than a single mineral. It is a gorgeous, colorful mix of several copper-based minerals that have grown together, typically bound in a quartz or chalcedony matrix. Because it is heavily infused with quartz, Fynchenite is much harder and more durable than pure chrysocolla.
the vast majority of material sold specifically under the trade name "Fynchenite" is sourced from Madagascar.
