Chrysocolla is a wonderful combination of a variety of greens to intense blues, with a hint of brown. It is a minor ore of copper. Chrysocolla is often found in association with Malachite and Azurite in masses, crusts or vein fillings. Because of its blue color, it is sometimes confused with turquoise.
Notable occurrences include Indonesia, Israel, Congo, Chile, England, and China. In the United Sates it can be found in several states, including Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
The name “Chrysocolla” is derived from the Greek chrysos, meaning “gold”, and kolla, meaning “glue”, because the ancient Greeks used this semiprecious stone when soldering gold.
