Sumatra grass amber, also known as "zebra-grass amber," is a rare variety of Indonesian amber, specifically from Sumatra, valued for its unique natural plant debris inclusions resembling grass. Many Sumatran ambers, including variants with inclusions, exhibit a blue fluorescence under sunlight or UV light, while appearing golden or brown in artificial light.
Originates from fossilized resin of ancient Hymenaea Protera trees, dating back roughly 15 to 30 million years. It is frequently found in coal-bearing sediments during mining operations.
Sumatra amber is known to be softer than Baltic amber, which can make it more challenging to polish.
