Peace Jade isn't actually jade at all! In the gemstone world, it is a commercial "trade name" for a beautiful, naturally occurring rock that blends three completely different minerals together: White Quartz, Green Serpentine & Lavender Stichtite
Because it is a specific cocktail of minerals, it only forms where those distinct elements meet. The vast majority of the commercial Peace Jade used in jewelry and carving is mined in China.
If you have a piece of Peace Jade with beautiful purple patches, don't leave it sitting on a sunny windowsill. Long-term exposure to harsh UV rays can cause the lavender stichtite minerals to fade over time. While the quartz in Peace Jade can handle water perfectly, the serpentine and stichtite components are much softer and chemically sensitive. It's best not to submerge or soak it for long periods.
Hardness 6.5
This is a natural stone that has had no treatment other than cutting, drilling, and polishing in China
