Metal alloy enamel charms are a staple in jewelry making, crafting, and accessory design. They combine the structural versatility of molded metals with the vibrant, durable coloration of enamel.
In modern manufacturing, "enamel" typically refers to a pigmented epoxy or poly-resin liquid rather than traditional kiln-fired powdered glass. To create soft enamel charms, this liquid resin is injected into the recessed wells of a molded metal base and baked until dry, intentionally leaving the wells filled below the brim. As the enamel settles and cures, it creates a distinct, textured "dimensional" ridge pattern where the plated metal borders remain distinctly raised to the touch. This high-low topography makes soft enamel ideal for designs where you want the metallic line work to pop both visually and texturally.
Because the decorative finish is an electroplated layer over an alloy base, these charms should not be exposed to harsh jewelry cleaners, perfumes, or extended moisture, which can strip away the plating and expose the raw alloy underneath.
