Rack plating is a specialized electroplating method used to coat metal objects with a uniform layer of another metal or alloy, making it the ideal choice for delicate, complex, or high-quality items like jewelry components, precision electronics, and automotive trim. In this process, objects are safely secured to a rigid, current-conducting copper frame—called a rack—using spring clips, wires, or pins to prevent them from scratching, bending, or tangling against one another. Once the pieces are fixed in place, the entire rack is suspended from a metal bar and submerged into a series of chemical baths and electroplating tanks. By acting as the cathode (negative electrode) in the electrical circuit, the rack attracts positively charged metal ions suspended in the plating solution, resulting in a highly precise, controlled, and smooth deposition of the desired metal across even the most intricate designs.
