Unakite
Unakite is one of those stones that people fall in love with the moment they see it — that distinctive combination of salmon pink Orthoclase feldspar and pistachio-green Epidote is completely unique in the mineral world. It's a coarse-grained granitic rock altered by hydrothermal activity, and it can also include Red Jasper and Clear Quartz, giving each bead its own character. It was discovered in 1874 in the Unaka mountain range in Tennessee — which is where it gets its name. Here's a fun fact: Unakite was used as trimming on the front steps of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C., and as floor tiles on a landing at the south entrance. It can also be found on the beaches of Lake Superior, where glaciers dragged it from the mountains. Unakite is not a jasper, although it is frequently mislabeled as "Unakite Jasper" in the gemstone market.
