Rutilated Quartz is quartz caught mid-conversation with another mineral — clear or smoky crystal threaded with fine needles of rutile, scattered like strands of gold, copper, and silver. The Romans called it Venus' Hair Stone, imagining the needles as the goddess's hair.

Every strand is one of a kind: needles can be sparse and elegant or densely woven, neat or crisscrossed in beautiful chaos.

A note on names: rutile needles are usually golden, but can run silver, copper-red, or black. When the needles are black, the stone is often actually Tourmalinated Quartz — black tourmaline rather than rutile.
