Red Stripe

Red Stripe

Red Stripe Agate is a vivid red-and-banded chalcedony — deep reds and oranges layered with lighter stripes that give the stone its name. A bold, saturated red that makes a statement in jewelry.

A note on the name, and an honest one: Red Stripe Agate looks a lot like Carnelian, and the bead trade uses the two names almost interchangeably. Here's the real difference. Carnelian gets its color from heat, which deepens the iron-oxide tone already in the stone. Red Stripe Agate is dyed — color is introduced to create that rich, even red. Both are chalcedony, but not treated the same way. We label ours honestly: Dyed.

Available in smooth rounds (4mm-10mm), faceted rounds, large-hole 8mm, faceted twist helix, faceted rice beads, and faceted hexagon coins.
