Prehnite
Prehnite is one of those stones that rewards a closer look. Named in 1788 for Colonel Von Prehn of the Dutch military — the first mineral to be named after a person — it's a silicate material with a soft, pearly luster and colors ranging from pale mint green to warm yellow-green, and occasionally colorless, blue, pink or white. The dark inclusions you sometimes see running through Prehnite are black tourmaline, which creates a beautiful natural contrast. There's also a beautiful variety called Brandy Prehnite that combines green with warm yellow-brown tones. In April 2000, rare orange Prehnite was discovered in South Africa, making headlines in the gemstone world.
