Pietersite is a trade name for a dark blue-grey breccia aggregate made up mainly of Hawk's Eye and Tiger's Eye.  It is a variety of chalcedony with embedded fibers that cause the chatoyancy.

Pietersite body colors include blues, which range from light or grayish blue to dark midnight hues, red, gold, orange and brown. Chinese Pietersite tends to have a brownish-red body color, while Namibian Pietersite has a bluish body color The swirls in this stone can appear golden, yellow, orange or fiery red.
