Obsidian
Obsidian is one of the most fascinating materials in nature. It's a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed from swiftly cooling lava with high silica content. Technically it's not a true mineral because it doesn't have a consistent chemical content and doesn't form crystals. It's hard, brittle and glassy — and humans have been using it for tools and ornaments for thousands of years. The color varies depending on impurities in the parent lava, which is why obsidian comes in so many distinct varieties. We carry four: classic jet black obsidian, golden & silver obsidian with a golden or silver sheen and, snowflake obsidian — a natural volcanic glass containing the mineral Cristobalite in white snowflake crystal patterns.
