Moonstone

Moonstone

Moonstone is a variety of orthoclase feldspar with layered orthoclase and albite minerals. Named for adularescence — a soft, billowy sheen that moves across the stone's surface like moonlight.

Adularescence occurs when light scatters through microscopic alternating feldspar layers. Colors range from white and cream to blue, peach, rainbow, and gray.

Moonstone is Mohs 6-6.5 — soft. Excellent for earrings, pendants, and necklaces. Can be used in rings and bracelets with protective bezel or wire-wrap settings. Bracelets require careful wear. Avoid harsh chemicals, extreme heat, and prolonged sun. Clean with soft cloth and lukewarm water.

Moonstone has been revered for millennia. Ancient cultures believed it was solidified moonlight. Romans offered it to lunar goddesses. The Art Nouveau movement revived its popularity in the 1800s.

All our Moonstone is natural and untreated, sourced from Sri Lanka, India, Madagascar, and worldwide.
