Malachite

Malachite

Malachite is a green copper carbonate mineral vividly banded with two or more tones of green. The name comes from Greek "malache" meaning green. The bright color comes from copper — the same copper that creates green patina on weathered roofs.

Malachite is Mohs 3.5-4 — soft. Best for earrings, pendants, and necklaces. Can be used in rings and bracelets with protective bezel or wire-wrap settings. Bracelets require careful wear — remove before activity. Avoid prong settings. Sensitive to heat and weak acids. Clean with soft cloth and lukewarm water.

Malachite has been treasured for millennia. Ancient Egypt used it as pigment. Russian tsars favored it for palace decor. Columns of malachite adorn St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg.

All our Malachite is natural and untreated, with signature banding reflecting geological history.
