Kyanite

Kyanite is an aluminum silicate with striking blue and green colors. Its most unusual property: anisotropic hardness — different hardness depending on crystal direction. Parallel to its length: 4.5-5. Perpendicular: 6-7. This dramatic difference is the most extreme of any common gemstone.

Kyanite is delicate. It has perfect cleavage and can split with a hard impact. Best for earrings, pendants, and necklaces. Avoid rings and bracelets.

Kyanite is prized for its silky luster and vibrant blues (sapphire tones) or scarcer greens. It's affordable and popular in healing practices.
