Carnelian

Carnelian is the warm, glowing orange-red member of the chalcedony family — a microcrystalline quartz that gets its color from iron oxide. Civilizations from ancient Egypt to Rome have prized it for over four thousand years.

A note on the name: you'll see Carnelian called "Carnelian Agate" across the bead trade, including here. Strictly, agate is banded chalcedony and pure carnelian is solid-color chalcedony — but the industry uses the names interchangeably.

Heated, not dyed. Most Carnelian on the market — including ours — is heat-treated to bring out the vivid red and orange tones. In India, stones were traditionally left in the sun to do the same job. We label ours as Heated so there's no confusion.
