Glow-in-the-Dark (Phosphorescent) beads contain phosphors that absorb light energy and release it slowly over time. They "charge" under a light source and then glow in total darkness.
To get the brightest glow from phosphorescent beads, the quality of light matters more than the quantity of time: UV flashlights or "blacklight" is the most efficient. A 30-second blast of UV light can charge beads more effectively than hours under a standard LED bulb.
Natural sunlight provides the full UV spectrum. Leaving a piece on a windowsill for a few minutes will give it a strong charge.
Avoid Standard LEDs. Most household white LEDs emit very little UV, making them very slow and inefficient for charging glow beads.
