Agate is a common rock formation, consisting of chalcedony and quartz as its primary components, consisting of a wide variety of colors. Agates are primarily formed within volcanic and metamorphic rocks. Agate is sometimes called the earth’s rainbow because, in its various forms, the concentric bands in nature form nearly every color even a colorless form.

Alashan Agate is found in the Gobi Desert, which is in the Chinese part of Mongolia. Millions of years ago this area was an ocean. Then volcanic eruptions caused the creation of these Agates. Then they were buried in the sands of the Gobi Desert. Some say this Agate is a “relic” of the earth because it had been buried deep in the earth. In the desert, were exposed to extreme heat and cold and polished by the desert wind and sand. Alashan Agate comes in a variety of colors from pastels pinks and creams, grey to dark brown and orange.

The source of these beads is China and they are cut, drilled and polished in China.
