Sugilite is a pink to purple mineral and the color is due to magnesium. It can be the color of grape jelly. It is rarer, especially the more translucent it is.

Sugilite was first described in 1944 by the Japanese geologist Sugi in Japan. However, as with most minerals, its pronunciation is intended to be the same as the person it is named after.   It is also found in Quebec, Canada, South Africa. It is also reported from Liguria and Tuscany, Italy; New South Wales, Australia  and India.

Hardness 5.5-6.5 

This is a natural stone that has had no treatment other than cutting, drilling, and polishing. 

The source of these beads is South Africa and they are cut, drilled and polished in China.
