Morganite is a beryl, a mineral that includes emerald and aquamarine. The most common color of is shades of pink which is caused by the presence of manganese.
It was originally discovered on the coast of Madagascar in 1911. Then it was also found in California around the same time. Within that same year, a chief geologist at Tiffany & Co, renamed it Morganite after the mineral collector and financier, JP Morgan.
Morganite can be found in many locations around the world. The two most significant deposits are found in Brazil and Madagascar. Other notable sources Morganite include Afghanistan, China, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Russia, and the USA (California and Maine).
